The first episode of Girliyapa’s Original Series ‘Girls Hostel’ is finally out. Its title ‘The Bra Chor’ definitely ensured that we click on the thumbnail. It starts with a mysterious someone flicking a bra that has been hung out to dry in the hostel corridor. Later in the episode, we find out that the fateful corner, which is not covered by any CCTV camera, has actually been given a name. Read on to find out what it is.

Jo and Zahira are sworn enemies and roommates. However, they later part ways owing to the latter accusing Jo of stealing her favorite red bra. It turns out that Zahira had been wearing it all along. They ask for their rooms to be changed, but the strict warden sends them back. Jo takes over Richa and Milli’s room, to their dismay. The episode is all about one of the girls’ swimming costume being stolen and the investigation that ensues, headed by Jo, with Richa and Milli being ordered to help her with the same.

This 3-part original series, the first of which has been released today, revolves around the lives of four girls from different backgrounds and their life in St. John’s Dental College and the hostel they reside in. It is the story of them coming together and sharing valuable life experiences.

Ahsaas Channa portrays the role of Richa, an 18-year-old fresher from Nagpur trying to figure what is right for her. As the episode begins, she is seen as a pushover but things change as the episode progresses. Simran Natekar plays Milli – a pampered girl who hails from a wealthy family and loves watching hostel fights. Srishti Srivastava is Jo, the hostel don, who lives life by her rules and has been raised as a tomboy. She has named the theft corner ‘Bermuda triangle’, since that is where her bermuda shorts were stolen from. Parul Gulati is Zahira – the quintessential haughty college queen who thinks she is above all, and is also treated by many like she is, with girls too vying for her attention.

From fun hostel nights, to college rivalry, the series gives its viewers a taste of every event that many will relate to. The narrative explores the everyday lives of these Dental College Students, as they come together to deal with their own personal issues; right from overbearing parents to eccentric wardens to the mean girls they encounter. The series has been directed by Chaitanya Kumbhakonum, the music is by Vaibhav Bundhoo and Nidhi Bisht is the creative head.

What’s WOW:

The performances, especially Srishti Srivastava and Ahsaas Channa’s.

The name ‘Bermuda Triangle’ – Trust Girliyapa to come up with something like that.

Richa demanding to have a choice if she needs to be involved in something – That is what makes Jo like her eventually

 What’s Blah:

Nothing, really.

Parting Shot:

Girls Hostel is hilarious, and not in a forced way. It is a slice of life series – life in a girls hostel, that is real and relatable. Worth a watch.
