Actors Sanjeeda Sheikh and Vatsal Seth, the popular celluloid pair from “Ek Hasina Thi”, have reunited for Vikram Bhatt’s supernatural show “Gehraiyaan”. Directed by Sidhant Sachdev and co-produced by Viu, Vikram Bhatt and Culture Machine, the series is about a young urban couple whose relationship is challenged by the forces of the dark.
Gehraiyaan though a horror story is fundamentally a love story that unfolds between 26-year-old researcher Reyna Malik, and her surgeon/ partner Shekhar in a Hospital in Mumbai. Reyna is now back in Mumbai after having taken a short break from work. Our heroine feels challenged to get back to the work she loves the most. Surgery. Owing to a trauma that affected her in the recent past, the hospital authorities are skeptical on allowing her to practice so early on.
What’s wow? The makers seem to bank on the popularity of the TV stars who are already an established and appreciated pair. A medical romance in a horror set up could have a fair share of audience. For those that Raaz Reboot and Haunted 3D made the cut can get spooked without having to pay for it now.
What’s blah: What has been repeatedly missing from Vikram Bhat’s films and now web series is newness. A lack of freshness in approach which is otherwise taking over all media is a definite let down in Bhatt entertainment as a whole. Claiming to shock and surprise the audience constantly, Vikram Bhatt might only achieve that once his films get a makeover.
Parting shot: Sanjeeda Sheikh looks pretty in the trailer. We are hoping to see the beauty translating into performances now.
