Riding high on the digital entertainment wave, Eros Now registered an increase of 38% in subscribers from 2.1 million in March 2017 to 2.9 million in June 2017, tripling the subscriber base in just 15 months. It has approximately 68 million registered users as of June-end 2017; this was revealed in the company’s financial report.
Eros aims to achieve 6-8 million paid subscribers at the end of FY2018, with encouraging trends in the local markets in the form of crashing data costs and smartphone costs, content consumption through over-the-top (OTT) platforms.
To tap this market, Eros Now is launching more original series in the second half of FY 2018 after successfully launching ‘Salute Siachen’, a unique docu-series shot on mobile phones, marking India’s first ever celebrity high endurance expedition to the Siachen Glacier.
Recently, Eros Now also partnered with IIFA (International Indian Film Academy) to be the first exclusive digital platform to air the awards weekend to its millions of subscribers worldwide. Overall, Eros’ library for digital film rights stands at over 10,000 films, with nearly 50% owned in perpetuity.
Kishore Lulla, Executive Chairman of Eros International shared that the company is positive of having 100 million subscribers within the next 5 years. Eros has tied up exclusively with SBI Buddy and other e-wallets in India such as Paytm, Mobikwik, Freecharge and Speedpay with an aggregate addressable market of 260 million.
