Ganesh Shetty, who started out as a production assistant in Urmila Matondkar – Aftab Shivdasani starrer Mast has now directed his own short film Paroksh marking Manish Mundra’s foray into short films. Under the banner of Drishyam Films, Paroksh will be the first short from a producer who has consolidated meaningful cinema in the present day Hindi Film Industry. A true patron of Independent Film-makers, Manish calls Paroksh “an atmospheric little spookfest”. The film has been released on YouTube today and is available for viewing free of cost.
The executive producer of “Budhia Singh: Born to Run” and line producer of the upcoming film “Newton”, Ganesh Shetty describes Paroksh as “a true story which happened in my hometown of Mangalore and caught my eye immediately. It’s a beautiful place and an upcoming educational hub. But despite all the progress, many superstitions still abound in my own village and scores of other communities in India. As a filmmaker, I wanted to tell this very visual story with a hint of the supernatural and a twist at the end, which will hopefully make the audience question age-old held beliefs.”
The cast of Paroksh comprises Amit Sial and Pooja Upasani and the backdrop is the beautiful landscape of Mangalore. What is more interesting is that Shetty shot his short in Tulu and complimented it with English subtitles to keep the flavour intact.
Manish Mundra, who has produced two national award winning films recently will prove as important to the digital medium as in Bollywood.
