It has happened. Disney is all set to become a content streamer – and one of the biggest ones at that. A while ago, the House of Mouse announced that their exclusive contract with Netflix to stream their content is coming to an end. Now, Disney has announced that it will start an app that will exclusively stream their content – and that’s a huge inventory.

Disney owns Marvel, which means they own most of the Marvel superhero characters. This could mean that the Disney app will now stream all the superhero web series, including Daredevil, Ironfist, Jessica Jones and any that are being planned. This is a body blow for Netflix, as Daredevil is one of the series that essentially made them what they are, at least in the Indian market, along with the likes of House of Cards.

Ironically, in India, Ekta Kapoor’s ALTBalaji has already gone this path – that of a content producer becoming a streaming service. While it is going strength to strength on the corporate level. However, there’s no saying about whether the audience is liking their product.
