Netflix’s The Crown definitely earned the streaming service a lot of brownies points for its true portrayal of the reign of Queen Elizabeth. But the points did not translate into much moolah for the lead actress Claire Foy, despite receiving rave reviews for her portrayal.
It was recently revealed that Netflix didn’t pay Claire at par with Matt Smith, her co-star who played her husband Prince Philip. The reason Matt was paid more is because of his ‘Doctor Who’ fame.
This information was shared by Left Bank Pictures’ Suzanne Mackie and Andy Harries in an interaction. However, things are about to change from the next season. The producers confirmed that the new seasons will treat actors on the basis of their contribution towards the series. So obviously the actress playing queen will earn the most.
The irony for Claire is that she is not going to be part of the show anymore and Olivia Colman will be playing an older Queen Elizabeth.
Apparently helming the entire series on your shoulder doesn’t merit you to earn the most amongst your co-stars. Your gender is the more important criterion. Whatever happened to gender inequality!
In India, we hope that Netflix becomes a bit generous with Radhika Apte who is part of its first Indian web series Sacred Games, apart from Saif Ali Khan and Nawazuddin Siddiqui.
