Celebrated Israeli-American filmmaker Sigal Avin has launched a series of short films on Facebook that speak out about the sexual harassment that women face at various levels.
Sigal is the mastermind behind projects like ‘With a Gun and a Smile’, ‘Freaks’, and the acclaimed ‘Game of Life’. She has won several awards for her films, like ‘You Shall Know No Grief’. In 2014, she was one of Variety’s ‘Scribes to Watch’.
Her latest venture, ‘That’s Harassment’ has quickly gone viral and is one of the most thought-provoking films about sexual harassment. The project has a star-studded cast, with some of the famous names being David Schwimmer (F.R.I.E.N.D.S) Michael Kelly (The Adjustment Bureau), Emmy Rossum (Shameless), Cynthia Nixon (Sex and the City), Harry Lenix (ER), Meryl Streep’s daughter Grace Gummer, Noah Emmerich (Super 8), Bobby Cannavale (Ant-Man) and others.
The videos are more thought-provoking because they depict harassment that women in all walks of life face. One of the videos show how even a woman’s visit to the doctor puts her at risk of being harassed. Other videos show a seemingly naïve model who’s hapless in the hands of a photographer. Yet other video shows a journalist being put in an uncomfortable position by a powerful politician that she’s interviewing. Another film shows harassment in the most obvious place – behind the counter at a speakeasy. That’s not all; Sigal takes us to the harassment that female actors face at their work place. Another video depicts a female co-worker being harassed by her male co-worker, played by Schwimmer.
The video shows that people who sexually harass people can be anyone; even a handsome goofball who played Ross in F.R.I.E.N.D.S. David is also one of the Producers and Executive Producer of the project.
