In a update to its terms of service, Apple has designated tipping content creators as in-app purchases. This will give Apple a 30 percent of the revenue in commission. The new policy has come into effect after Tencent, owner of WeChat, shut down a service that allowed iPhone users to tip content creators.

Digital platforms are swiftly changing the way digital content providers can make money from their apps and content. YouTube recently put up restrictions for the content that’s up on their platform. Movie makers could monetize their videos only after they reach 10000 views.

While that move didn’t bother much, it remains to be seen how the industry will react to Apple’s new move.
