Anupam Kher is all set to turn producer for a web series for Netflix. The veteran actor announced that he is working with Netflix on a web series based on the 1971 Indo-Pak war.

At a recent media interaction, Kher said that he was not sure about the starcast of the series. He also said that he would cast whoever was the demand of the script.

Kher has signed on several films that talk about the Indian polity and the Indian surveillance system. He had a starring role in Special 26, that spoke about an infamous crime gang. He was also part of the cast of Akshay Kumar’s ‘Baby’ and ‘Naam Shabana’.

Anupam Kher will next be seen in the film ‘Toilet: Ek Prem Katha’, starring Akshay Kumar and Bhumi Pednekar. He will also part of Madhur Bhandarkar’s ‘Indu Sarkar’, the film that’s has the Emergency as part of it’s script.

When this happens, this will be another of the few multi starcast web series that are coming from India. The first was Excel Entertainment’s ‘Inside Edge’. The other will be Rajkummar Rao’s web series that will tell Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose’s story.

Historical films and films about the Indian freedom struggle have mostly worked for the Indian audiences. This will not be the first time that a fictional piece will be made on the 1971 war.  In 2007, ‘1971’, talked about the treatment of prisoners of this war. Probably the most famous film made on this subject was ‘Hindustan ki Kasam’, the Raj Kumar starrer that released in 1973.  Other films were Aakraman, released in 1975, starring Sanjeev Kumar and a young Rakesh Roshan.  Another famous film that bombed at the box office was Deewar, which starred Amitabh Bachchan, Akshaye Khanna, Sanjay Dutt and others. Again, in 1982, ‘Vijeta’, the Govind Nihalani directorial brought back memories of the 1971 war to Indian audiences.
