When The Jungle Book released, it created a whole new space for old stories to undergo a new treatment. But few would know that as The Jungle Book was hitting the screens, another film on the same concept, Mowgli, was in the works.

The film was in development hell for a while and the first trailers hit the screens only recently. Now, the film will not have a theatre release, and audiences will be able to see it as a Netflix Original. Mowgli stars the voices of Christian Bale, Benedict Cumberbatch and Kate Blanchett. The film also stars Rohan Chand, Matthew Rhys, Frieda Pinto and others in the live action roles.

Several big films that faced problems securing a theatrical release have found their way on the big N’s inventory. Earlier this year, The Cloverfield Paradox came on Netflix, a space horror film that was part of the Cloverfield franchise.

It is interesting to see Netflix in this light, because then, films that have been in the cans for several years can come back to life because they now have a mainstream service to cater to.
