For those of you who don’t have an Amazon Prime account yet, here’s some bad news. The subscription fee for this service will nearly double to INR 999 per year from INR 499.
This service was launched in July last year and has been its top selling product during major sale events. Despite the increase, the subscription fee in India will be way cheaper than its US counterpart which proudly stands at almost INR 6,000.
For Amazon, this move is crucial as Amazon Prime Video has recently started streaming Indian content and the prime subscriber base in India doubled after the video platform was launched last year. Its cricket drama Inside Edge was a massive hit, and Going Viral too has been appreciated for its real portrayal of the viral industry.
Amazon has an interesting line up of original content for India. This includes Made in Heaven by Zoya Akhtar, Inside Edge season 2, Phantom Films’ Stardust and Vishpuri; Kabir Khan’s The Forgotten Army, and many more. There are nearly 6 non-fiction shows that will be streamed on the platform. Apart from original content, Amazon Prime has also won the digital rights of Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Padmavati.
