Amazon Prime India is upping its game. In an interesting turn of events, it has roped in Gaurav Gandhi, Chief Operating Officer, Viacom18 Digital Ventures as the India Country Head, Director. Gaurav has been associated with Viacom for 8 years and was instrumental in the success of VOOT – the company’s on-demand over-the-top (OTT) service.
With this development, Amazon Prime India will finally have a country head since the exit of Nitesh Kripalani in August 2017. Despite that, Amazon Prime has been on a roll. After Inside Edge which was its first ever Indian web series, Amazon is all set to launch a host of titles in India. Inside Edge 2 will happen sometime later in the year. Apart from that it also released its first ever Indian unscripted series The Remix. You can read The Remix’s review here. Earlier in the year, Amazon Prime’s Breathe was released that starred R Madhavan and Amit Sadh is pivotal roles. Netflix too has a string of web series lined up for India starting from Sacred Games. Besides these two giants, other streaming service – such as Viu, VOOT, Hotstar, ALTBalaji – are also churning out content.
The Indian streaming service war has just begun!
