Amazon Prime is increasing its sci fi and fantasy muscle with the fourth season of The Expanse, the sci-fi series that has been on Prime for a while. The series is a SyFy original and has three seasons on the channel. The series has now been cancelled on SyFy and it could now be a web, Amazon Prime exclusive. The series is based on a book by Daniel Abraham and Ty Franck. Currently, the future based series stars Steven Strait, Shohreh Aghdashloo, Dominique Tipper, Cas Anvar, Wes Chatham and others.
This is not the first time that a cancelled television series has become a web only series. previously, old and popular tv series have been turned into a web exclusive to some success. In fact, Amazon Prime green lighted Young Sheldon, a web series that was based on Sheldon from The Big Bang Theory.
Amazon Prime’s decision to bring The Expanse to their inventory is a clear indication that they are looking to increase the sci-fi and fantasy inventory and be a direct competition to Netflix, who have more or less captured the sci-fi and fantasy market with their web series like Stranger Things and others.
