Amazon acquires The Lord of The Rings rights for $250 mn

Amazon has finally won the race to acquire global TV rights for The Lord of The Rings, based on the fantasy novels by J.R.R. Tolkien. The deal estimated at $250 million, also includes a multi-season commitment to a LOTR series, and also potential spinoff series.

TheDigitalHash.com reported about this hit series being made into a web series. Apart from Amazon, Netflix and HBO were also being considered to by the Tokien Estate to sell the rights.

The LOTR original series, a prequel to Tolkien’s The Fellowship of the Ring, will be produced by Amazon Studios in cooperation with the Tolkien Estate and Trust; HarperCollins; and New Line Cinema, a division of Warner Bros. Entertainment.
