ALTBalaji is coming up with a refreshing take on content that they are well known for – family dramas. They ruled the roost for almost three decades and have now made their foray into the digital world with its streaming channel.

Kehne Ko Humsafar Hain is about a rich family that’s poised to tear up at the middle because the hubby and father, played by Ronit Bose Roy has an affair with his interior designer, played by Mona Kapoor.

This concept has been touched upon a lot of times in mainstream media. However, ALTBalaji does bring a fresh new take to the concept. The series has some powerful dialogues and an engaging screenplay. This keeps the audience hooked and waiting for the next step in a love story that’s not just walking but galloping towards doom and destruction.

What’s Wow: The show gets the point bang on with other misogynist dialogues, spewed by the mother-in-law, the female and male friends of the protagonists. We must remember that such dialogues aren’t there because the creators subscribe to it – but because that’s what happens in real life.

The screenplay writers successfully bring several aspects to the fore – like the woman is always burdened with the responsibility for a break-up, or the mother-in-law from hell who’s all fury and fire with her daughter-in-law. Kehne Ko Humsafar Hain therefore becomes a show that’s incredibly hard hitting when the characters speak about the problem. The performances are good, with Rohit Roy once again proving that he can carry an entire show on his shoulders. Mona Singh is finally coming out on her own and more power to her.

What’s Blah: But all that gets creamed over with the camera’s penchant for showing designer jewelry, semi exotic locations and of course, a Punjabi wedding in a Gurudwara. And then, it seems to be plied on when the scenes like a Yoga class banter makes their appearance.

Audiences may find some of screenplay cliched, like where the two illegitimate lovers discuss what’s hers, his and theirs.

Parting Shot: A intense script that unravels itself as it goes on.

Cast: Ronit Roy, Mona Singh, Gurdeep Kohli

Kehne Ko Humsafar Hain is now streaming on AltBalaji
