ALTBalaji has taken the bold step of setting up a platform for streaming, competing with the likes of Hotstar, Amazon Prime and Netflix. While it is home to some trailblazing series like Ragini MMS Returns, Dev DD and others, the going hasn’t been all rosy for the company.
Latest reports suggest that their new offering, Haq Se, which stars Rajeev Khandelwal, Surveen Chawla and others, took nearly two years to finally wrap up. Manor Rama Pictures Co-Founder, Karan Raj Kohli says that the designing of each characters, casting the characters and narrowing down locations took close to two years. The going has been good for ALTBalaji, all said and done. They are tying up with content aggregators and even getting an influx of investment.
In the background of this is the tumultuous relationship that ALTBalaji has had with their show runners. The Test Case went into a hiatus after the alleged fallout between Nagesh Kukunoor and people over at ALTBalaji. Then, the Ragini MMS Returns web series had its own share of troubles. We earlier told you that ALTBalaji has somewhat of a revolving door policy with its directors. News outlets hinted at a fallout between Sunny Leone and Balaji being the reason that Sunny didn’t lend her star support to the Ragini franchise.
New directors are roped in in the middle of the series, old are let go and sometimes, directors are roped in only shoot the finale of franchises.
It is unclear what’s the exact reason behind this Ferris wheel mentality, but whatever it is, ALTBalaji is still holding a steady ship.
