It is high time and Airtel, like always, is the first to bring international streaming platforms to its users in the truest sense of the term. In a statement, Airtel announced that their users who have opted for the 499 plan will have a full year’s access to Amazon Prime’s content, including films, tv series and Amazon Original programming. They will get this service through Airtel’s proprietary streaming app, Airtel TV. Apart from mobile users, users od Airtel V-Fiber broadband network will also be able to get an Amazon Prime membership for free.
This is the gamechanger that the telephony and streaming market requires in India. Broadband prices are some of the cheapest in the world but still work out steep for most paying Indians. So, it makes complete sense to add such a popular service to the ones offered by mobile companies. Since long, Airtel has been the front runner in bringing newer technology and services to the Indian customer and they created a precedent.
Of course, all this is good news for the paying customer. They not just get the service but also can consumables. In other words, not only do they get high speed data – the 499-plan essentially offers 30 GB of hi-speed data with a rollover benefit. This means that users can stream their favourite web series or movie all through the month and still not pay more than what they had committed to.
However, this is not the first step that Airtel has taken to capture the streaming market. They earlier tried to cater to the television and the streaming fans with their Airtel Internet TV box, which allowed users to stream Netflix and YouTube directly to their devices.
With the streaming world heating up in India, the customer will soon be royalty.
