Acclaimed actress, singer, songwriter and activist Janelle Monáe will star in the upcoming second season of the critically-acclaimed Amazon Original Series Homecoming. Monáe plays a tenacious woman who finds herself floating in a canoe, with no memory of how she got there — or even who she is.
HOMECOMING is co-produced by Amazon Studios and UCP (Universal Content Productions). The series is executive produced by Sam Esmail through his production company Esmail Corp; as well as “Mr. Robot” executive producer Chad Hamilton of Anonymous Content; the podcast’s Eli Horowitz and Micah Bloomberg; and Chris Giliberti, Alex Blumberg and Matt Lieber of Gimlet Media. Julia Roberts will also serve as executive producer through her production company Red Om Films.
JANELLE MONÁE is one of the most celebrated artists in the modern era. A multiple Grammy -nominated singer, songwriter, producer, performer, activist, and fashion icon is known worldwide for her inimitable style and visionary sound, which celebrates the spectrum of identity. Recently, she was nominated for two Grammy awards in the categories of ‘Album of the Year’ and ‘Best Music Video’ for her album Dirty Computer. From her position as a co-chair for When We All Vote, to her Fem the Future initiative empowering other female filmmakers, her efforts to inspire others goes far beyond her music.
As an actor, she’ll next be seen in Focus Feature’s HARRIET, the new biopic chronicling the life of Harriet Tubman as well as Disney’s live action reboot of LADY AND THE TRAMP in which her management company, Wondaland is producing multiple songs. Janelle will play ‘Peg’ the wise-cracking pound dog voiced in the 1955 original animated film by Peggy Lee alongside Tessa Thompson as ‘Lady’ and Justin Theroux as ‘Tramp’. Additionally, she’ll be seen alongside Julianne Moore in the upcoming biopic, THE GLORIAS: A LIFE ON THE ROAD. Her previous acting credits include MOONLIGHT and HIDDEN FIGURES.
