Short Film: Populace

Aaron Bevan-Bailey brings to us a dystopian future where even the basic aspect of life is controlled by the government – the right of a woman to bear children. The film tells the story of a couple who’s life turns topsy turvy when the woman becomes pregnant without the permission of the government. The husband, who works for the government, is now faced with the question of whether he should remain loyal to the government or try to save his wife.

What’s wow? The concept of the film is quite interesting. With the current scenario where governments are accused of interfering in the personal lives of people, this is a story that’s worth telling. The film is shot beautifully and has a tight screenplay, enough to keep the audience glued and waiting for what happens next.

What’s blah: Populace is not your typical sci-fi actioner, so there is very little action to be found. This is not the film for the mainstream sci-fi fan who wants to see a planet blowing up or a space ship saving the world.

Parting shot:
Populace is an interesting addition to the sci-fi genre. Sci-fi fans should definitely give this a watch.
